The CX-61 "Spectre" Flechette Rifle is a high powered anti-Cryon rifle developed by Cimerion Labs. It will be released in Sergeant Kelly's Weapon Pack V10.
Background[]
The CX61 is a powerful anti-Cryon flechette rifle designed primarily around reverse-engineered technology. Unlike most of Frontier Tech's weaponry, the CX61 uses ballistic ammunition, specifically a special 10mm Depleted Uranium penetrator round with a Cryon designed propellant. These rounds rip through Cryon battlearmor with relative ease, allowing UTC soldiers to burn away the fleshy material that binds their mechanical components together. For this purpose, the gun additionally comes with an ignitable, dual-purpose gas dispenser that can release either ignited or unignitied G28 fumes to heal allies or set opponents alight. This gas supply is constantly replenished by a Cryon nano-forge housed in the receiver. It is strongly recommended to check the ignition status before attempting to assist allied soldiers.
Gameplay[]
The CX61 is a powerful mid-range weapon with higher than average damage than most semi-autos. It will generally kill in 2-3 shots, which means a solid burst or two on target will usually net you a kill. Keep in mind that it's primary fire is locked to the two round burst mode. The CX61 flechettes will also drop off to 60% damage at max range.
Compared to the other semi-autos, the CX61 is a mid-range powerhouse. Its enhanced damage allows it to tackle overhealed opponents better than its 7.62mm brethren, however its harsh recoil and burst delay hamper its performance in both long and short range. Additionally, bullet damage drops to 60% at range due to the short barrel and heavy ammunition. The flamer and high damage keep it competitive in close range, but it will struggle against the automatics and SMGs in that sector.
The CX61's alt fire can be used as either a defensive healing gas to assist teammates, or as an ignited steam of fire to burn targets. The healing gas cannot heal the gun's holder, so it's recommended to keep it ignited when battling against bots.
Weapon Modes[]
The CX61 can switch between healing gas or a flamethrower via its weapon modes. Both draw from the same regenerating ammo pool, and only one can be active at a time.

- A current fan theory states that the 'CX' in CX61 Flechette Rifle stands for Captain Xavious, animator of most of the weapons in Sergeant Kelly's Recolors Pack. So far Captain Xavious has neither confirmed or denied this theory.
